Mya Mounia Lazali

Born in Algiers in 1976, Mya Mounia Lazali is a versatile artist with degrees from the School of Fine Arts of Algiers and the Beijing Language and Culture University.
As a curator, painter, and designer, her work is featured in esteemed international collections such as the Barjeel Art Foundation, the European Union, the United Nations, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Algiers.

Her artistic career has taken her to major exhibitions around the world, including in Beijing, Paris, Bamako, Dakar, Marrakech, and Algiers. Alongside her creative practice, she is passionate about social and environmental issues.

For a long time, she has been concerned with the fate of migrating populations. In her series "We Will Not Go Back", exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Algiers and the Takako Richard Gallery in Paris in 2018, she explored the suffering of people fleeing wars in search of a better future.

She also responded to the Algerian Hirak movement through a series of paintings, all of which are now held in private collections.

She is currently conducting research on speciesism and the imbalance between humans and their ecosystem, reflecting her commitment to fostering a deeper connection between art and contemporary challenges.
